Palm Springs Palace
If you haven't heard - it's Modernism Week in Palm Springs. This annual event celebrates the Midcentury Architecture of the town with tours and events held in prime examples of the period in the desert oasis. Palm Springs was where Midcentury architects and Hollywood stars collided to spawn some of the most iconic private homes and public buildings in the United States. The famous 'Movie Colony' was a product of this era and now contains dozens of examples of Midcentury and Spanish Colonial homes. Serendipitously, one of those Modern masterpieces is currently on the market.
650 Tachevah Drive is a gleaming example of 1960s minimalism designed by architect Howard Lapham. Glass, stone, and stucco meld together seamlessly to produce a streamlined facade. The interior features original terrazzo floors, soaring ceiling heights, and a collection of retro furniture that anyone would kill to get their hands on. The interior and exterior bleed together when the glass sliding doors melt away and lead you onto a huge covered terrace with a pool just beyond. If you weren't already impressed, there is also a two bedroom guest house, citrus grove, koi pond, and an indoor swimming pool. Can you imagine the parties you could throw here?
The nine bedroom home is a Slim Aarons photo come to life. Its hard not to daydream about chugging Gin Martini's by the fireplace while Frank Sinatra sings 'You Make Me Feel So Young' for Old Hollywood's elite. I could definitely be into it.
